wedding photography - frequently asked questions (click here to return to the wedding photograph image galleries)
-
Can we see samples of your wedding photographs?
Absolutely! I consider this essential, not only to allow you to form your own judgements of my work, but also of me. You need to feel comfortable with me around, so that I can get the best images. Typically when you enquire about my services, I suggest a meeting at the studio were I can show samples of weddings that I have taken - my shooting style is what some would call 'photojournalism'. I consider this to be a more candid style, silently capturing the emotion and activities of whatever event I am attending. For weddings, I keep formal shots to a minimum - but will always take into account any requests you might have.
-
What areas do you cover for weddings?
I only cover the Dorset area, including Portland, Weymouth, Dorchester and Bridport.
-
Are there travelling costs?
For weddings within 20 miles of Portland there is no charge. Over that distance mileage is charged at 30p per mile.
-
Do you charge extra for Black and White wedding photographs?
No, but shooting my photographs digitally allows me to create a whole host of image enhancements at no extra cost. By default, all my wedding photography is in colour but, at your request, can be converted to pure black and white, or even special effects such as sepia, soft colour and infra red.
-
Do you provide proofs for our wedding photographs?
I provide an 'on-line' proofing service, rather than physical prints. Around a week after the wedding I will post all photographs on my website, in a special gallery (which can be password protected, to protect the privacy of your images).
-
What style of wedding photography do you shoot?
I mix 2 different styles during a typical wedding. The 2 main photography styles are:
Photojournalistic (candid) - this will usually dominate my style. I try and keep out of the way of proceedings, and record simply what happens, capturing key moments and emotions. This style is usually very popular with my clients. Typically about 80-90% of my images will be photojournalistic.
The next style for my wedding photographs is more traditional formal/posed shots - eg all the family shots. When you book me for your wedding, I will ask you to make a list of any special requests you have for group/formal shots, beyond the standard formal shots (eg full-length dress shots of the bride). We may also shoot formal/posed shots at locations away from the main proceedings for the bride and groom.
-
Do you shoot more than one wedding in a day?
No, your wedding will be the only one on that day, so there will be no time pressures.
-
Do you provide the negatives?
Since I shoot digitally, the concept of negatives does not exist. Their equivalent would be the original digital files I pull off my cameras but, as a photographer, these are my 'product' and, as such, I own the copyright. (The original digital files for your wedding photographs are backed up and a separate copy held for safety). I do offer all useable digital photographs from a wedding as either a CD 'Quicktime' slideshow (small file size, but not printable) - priced at £175, or a DVD with original, large size images (printable to beyond 8x12 inches) - priced at £400. Either of these formats can be purchased separately.
-
What type of Wedding Albums do you use?
Wedding albums range so much in price, colour and style, that I have decided not to include them in my wedding packages - I prefer to give you the freedom to choose your own. I do have a wide collection of hand-made albums available and a selction of these are on display in the gallery.
-
How do I book you for my wedding?
When you are happy with everything and want to go ahead and book, to reserve a date in my weddings calendar requires a non-returnable booking payment of £200 and a signed contract, which can be downloaded here. I do not 'hold' wedding dates and will only confirm a booking when the form and payment are received. This is the only way I feel I can be fair If I have multiple requests for weddings on the same day.
I accept wedding bookings anytime, but bear in mind that I am usually booked at least a year in advance for a lot of the Saturday weddings in 'high season', ie July to September.
with thanks, Brian.

STYLE
My style of wedding photography will capture the atmosphere of the day, with my relaxed manner putting everyone at ease throughout the wedding. I use both formal and informal shots to capture the mood of your wedding day and to reflect the personalities of the bride and groom, using natural light wherever possible. Formal shots can be taken quickly and then I will continue to work unobtrusively, recording you both with close family and friends enjoying this special time together.
CHOICEThere will be a large number of photographs from which to choose. Any of the images can be produced in colour, black & white or sepia. If you wish on the day you can choose a favourite location nearby, where you can have some special photography taken - such as along a beach or in the countyside.
FREEDOMI give you the freedom to choose a package where you are given all the images on DVD to use as you like. This gives you the freedom to produce your own prints or email your wedding pictures to family and friends.
Click here to read my frequently asked questions (FAQs) about my approach to wedding photography and then click here to look at my wedding photography price list. I undertake a limited number of weddings only, so please get in touch in plenty of time to discuss your own particular wedding photography requirements - to email me, or ring me on 01305 821432
